I
was able to hunt some fallow deer, doe’s no bucks. A taxidermist that I work with knew a guy that was in need of reducing
his herd before he sells them. This resulted in a very unique opportunity for me since it was going to be real cheap for me
and give me a chance to test two hunting loads.
The first hunting load that I wanted to test out
was for my K31 in 7.5x55 swiss. I used 180gr Seirra Gamekings powered by 44gr of IMR 4350. Estimated muzzle velocity was
around 2450fps, energy at 2425.
The first doe that I was after was all white. I
was able to take my step-son with me which made it that much more special. The hunt was harder than I thought. The taxidermist
that set it up said that we would go there, shot the deer and be home by dinner. Well I quickly found out different.
The woods were very thick and the white doe was
very spooky. After some patience and careful stalking I was able to get a clear shot at about 50 yards. The 180gr sierra left
a nice exit hole, double lunged the doe went only 30yards before dropping. Perfect expansion, and great wound channel.

The
next doe I was shooting for the taxidermist that set the hunt up. He wanted a nice chocolate doe, so out I went. This time
it was the British to have a turn.
For this I used my No4MkII scoped with a Simmons
scope. I have been playing with .308 bullets from this gun and have had good results. I used .308 150gr Nosler Ballistic Tips
powered by 41gr of IMR 4064. Estimated velocity around 2500fps.
This was about the same scenario, the doe was very
spooky and was using every tree to her advantage. I finally got an open shot between two trees. I hit part of the shoulder,
hitting the heart and spitting bone out the other side. The ballistic tip worked perfect

The
taxidermist also shot a nice spotted doe. Overall a great experience, much more difficult that expected. I will be using both
of these loads for the upcoming rifle deer season. Below is a picture of all three.
